My niece turned one on Mother’s Day, so her Mom had a birthday party for her on the 12th. I drove to Cleveland (3 hour drive from Dayton) to help Christian celebrate her first birthday. I had a blast at the party, and it was really good to see family that I had not seen in a long time. Here are some pics from Christian’s birthday party.

Every year the city of Dayton hosts an event called Urban Nights. It’s a chance for the residents of Dayton to come out and enjoy their city. There is a lot involved in this event…discounts at restaurants, live music on different corners, music and food in the Paul Laurence Dunbar neighborhood, shops open late, art galleries and tours of the condos and loft apartments in the downtown area.
I have attended Urban Nights every year since I moved to Dayton, and I have always thoroughly enjoyed it. When I moved into the loft apartments last year I told myself that I would one day open my apartment for the Urban Nights tour. Well, that day came on Saturday, May 11th.
An estimated 700 people came through my apartment, and I really enjoyed talking to all of them. The one drawback is that some people kept opening my closets. I don’t know if it was because some thought it was a model apartment, but at any rate, it was a little creepy. 
I received A LOT of compliments about my decor. I was asked by many of the visitors if I am an Interior Designer/Decorator. Many folks stated that they loved my apartment more than the model that was showing on the fifth floor. All in all I had a blast showing my apartment, and I am strongly considering showing again in the September 14th Urban Nights event.

As most of you know, I have been talking about the Mongstad mirror from Ikea for quite some time. Well, I finally purchased the mirror, and my friends husband hung it for me. (Thanks Tommy!!!) So, here is the mirror on the wall!

Sometime last year I came across a site called Polyvore. It is a fashion site where you can put together different looks. Each item that you choose has a link to where that item can be purchased, and the price. In the past I have only liked others look boards, so tonight I thought I would see how Polyvore works. So, I put together an outfit that I would like to wear to see how the whole system works.

When you live in a one bedroom loft apartment, the closet space can be minimal. I have a decent sized closet in my bedroom, and a tiny coat closet. There isn’t a linen closet in the apartment, which has led to my dilemma. My towels and sheets have overtaken my bedroom closet. So, I decided to clean out the hall closet, which was a hot mess (the only space in my apartment that is a mess). I bought 3 Closetmaid systems from Target and got to work.

The Home Goods store had its grand opening in Dayton on Sunday, March 11th. I am so glad that I no longer have to travel to Cincinnati just to go to the store.
I plan to make another trip in a couple weeks when all the hoopla dies down. A bought a few things, but wasn’t really able to look the way I wanted to because of the number of customers out there at 8 am.
Here are my purchases. New soaps for the bathroom.
A cookie jar that I plan to use as a decorative piece. It’s bigger than it looks in the picture.
A throw pillow for my bed. I have been looking for a pillow with orange in it for a while now!

This weekend I took care of a few decorating things around the house. I needed a new tv stand, so I decided to head to Ikea to get one.
I bought the Besta combination. I also purchased a lamp and some shelves to put up over my small desk area in the living room. Here are photos of the tv stand and the lamp.

I want to start this post by wishing everyone a happy and blessed new year! I also want to send out a thank you to each of you! Thank you for reading my blog. Thanks to those who comment, and to those who don’t. You all make it worthwhile.
I am looking forward to everything that the new year has to offer. I am not big on doing resolutions, but what I will say is that my goal in 2012 is to be a better me than I was in 2011.
Last, but definitely not least, I want to thank God for another year. I am thankful for the fact that even when friends and family turn their backs on me, God will never leave me nor forsake me.
I pray that in 2012 each of you will look within and find the you that you are meant to be.

I have a couple friends on my Christmas list that I have been trying to decide what to get for them. I want some, if not all of my gifts to be handmade this year. Not necessarily by me, but I love the fact that I can give a gift made with care.
