busy, busy, busy

I have been so busy lately. I am working full time, pulling 8 credit hours this quarter, trying to spend good quality time with my fiance, working on the wedding, and getting some me time in. That is the reason for my lengthy disappearance. I am going to try and do better.

I took a card making class yesterday, and I finally have some stuff to put into my etsy shop. So, if you are in need of some handmade cards, swing by my shop. My shop name is hersandhersgreetings and that’s on www.etsy.com.

Here are a couple of the cards I made:

the inside says "May you have a rainbow-filled day"

My fiance and I went to church with two of our new friends today. After church we went to PF Chang’s for lunch. The weather was really nice today, so we did a little shopping around Rookwood, then we came back to the house. She took a nap, and I went to pick up some items. I had to stop by Office Depot to pick up envelopes for our invitations.

One of the friends that we went to lunch with told me about a new book that I need to pick up. It’s called The Shack. Has anyone read it?

Any of you on twitter? If so, look me up. HersandHers. If you’re on Facebook, send me a message on here and I will add you.

Well, I need to get my things together for work. Hope you all have a good week.

Overheard at the office…

This event actually happened on Thursday, but I haven’t had a chance to get on to post about it. Ok, this story is about MW. MW is a co-worker of mine.  Before I go into the story, I will give you a little background on MW. She is a 27-year-old caucasian female. She moved to Ohio from Abilene, TX. She is currently working on her masters. To be blunt, she is VERY naive. I am at times amazed by some of the stuff that she says.

There was a group of 7 of us working downstairs on the day this event occurred. We were talking; just having random conversations. Somehow the topic of hemorrhoids was brought up. As we’re talking, MW turns around and says, “I thought hemorrhoids was a sexually transmitted disease.” The room became deathly quiet. We were waiting to see if she was joking. I think deep within, we all knew she wasn’t joking. RF turned around and shouted, “Damn MW, what do you know?” I was floored. MW then says that she had health class, but did not learn that in health class. She asked how would she know what it was if she had never had one. I tell you, I have never seen someone so out of it. We have been trying to educate her on some things. I can see now this will be a long, painful process.

My baby left for DC today. She went down for the inauguration. I couldn’t go because I have math class on Tuesday, and they won’t be back until late Tuesday night. When it comes to math, I need all the class time I can get. :-) I asked her to make sure that she gets a newspaper every day that she’s there, and to make sure that she takes lots of pictures. I know the atmosphere is going to be electric down there! I pray that everything goes off peacefully, and that people aren’t out there acting crazy.

I went to Best Buy to use the $15 gift certificate that I had. I bought 2 dvd’s. They had The Great Debaters for $7.50, so I picked that up. I also bought A Raisin In The Sun.

405px-great_debaters_postraisinAfter I left Best Buy, I decided I would go over to the mall to see if the sales were any good. I passed by B. Dalton bookstore, and it turns out they’re going out of business. I went in with the hope that I would rack up on some good books. I love a good bookstore. :-) Well, I came a little too late. Today was the last day of the sale. The store closes at 10 tonight. :-(

I was able to find The Soloist for my baby. I will read it when she’s done.

can't wait to read the book, then see the movie.

can't wait to read the book, then see the movie.

I also picked up a journal for myself. It’s called a Frindle Journal. The journal is named after a book. I bought it because I liked the cover. I can’t find a pic of the journal online, but here is a pic of the book, which is the same as the journal without all the words. :-)

frindleI bought one other book, and that one is for the both of us. Every time I go into a bookstore I look for black lesbian literature. I am always looking for the female E. Lynn Harris. She has to be out there dammit. All I ever find are books about gay men. So, when I saw this book at B. Dalton, I was very excited.

longing

This is the write-up on the back of the book:

ou’ve heard about it, you’ve read about it, most of us have been through it, the various stages of lesbian love. It starts with the lingering looks across the room at an interesting stranger, romantic e-mails, flowers, and wearing leather on your first date. Then once you have her, stage two kicks off with all night sex sessions that leave you sore but still wanting more. Soon you don’t even want to leave the house for months, and some of your friends even forget your name. Then, if you’re lucky, the third stage comes around and you’ve settled into the comfy couch of your relationship. Come join Nghosi Books down memory lane or take this journey for the very first time as we introduce you to ultimate pleasure in our New Voices Series of longing, lust, and love!

Well, I am going to read a few pages, then I am going to bed. I have been up since 4:30 this morning. I will catch up with everyone’s blog tomorrow.

Good night.

Deep in the trenches…

mathI am deep in the trenches right now. This math is going to be the death of me. After this quarter I have 2 more math classes to take. Why in the world did I save math ’til the end? I graduate in June. I may mess up my GPA messing around with College Algebra and Math and the Modern World. Pray for me y’all. I am getting ready to do math homework. I will post again when I am done. Whenever that is. :-)

Love my social work class…

social-workI clearly understand that social workers are underpaid, and highly overworked. I understand that there are limited resources for social workers. But, what I also understand is that I want to be one. I have always had the desire to help people. Not save the world, but help people overcome their issues. I took SWK 211 last quarter, and absolutely loved my professor. Well, during the class we had a nut in there who was trying to cause problems. She was dismissed from the school and we convinced our professor to teach 212. The story is a little more detailed than that, but we’ll leave it at that.

M.R.G is the best teacher that I have had in my college years. She makes the class interesting. The best part about it is that the entire SWK 211 class took the SWK 212 class. It’s like the family is back together again. The focus of this class is to do a lot of role playing. We also have to do a practicum. 32 hours. I am in the midst of finding one now. I got turned down from the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter because they already had their student intern quota. So, the search continues. I would really like to do my practicum at Artemis Domestic Violence Center, but they haven’t gotten back to me yet. So, I wait…

Back to work…

officeI went back to work today, and I must say, it was kind of hard. I have been off since the 18th of December. I got into a good routine, and I enjoyed the time that I was able to spend with my baby. But, it had to come to an end. Today seemed very long. Probably because I had gotten used to doing what I wanted when I wanted it. At work, you move when they tell you. LOL It’s not that bad, but ya know.

I went to a wake this morning. My co-workers father died, so we went to give our support. We didn’t realize that the family would only be there during the last hour of the wake, so we went at 9 am…the beginning. Well, my deputy director goes in and quickly comes out. She says, “Well, S.T. isn’t in there, but his father is.” Now, of course death isn’t funny, but that was funny. :-) We waited until he got there, and he was so happy to see us…especially the director, whom he has had problems with on the job. I heard him tell our director that things will be different this year. It’s amazing how death makes you realize that some stuff just isn’t worth it. The anger, the hatred, the resentment, just not worth it. At the end of the day, when you leave this earth none of it will matter.

It was amazing that S.T. told the director that things would be different. When we got to work this morning the director was doing his “back to work” speech, and he said that he had thought about things during the break, and his resolution for the new year was to live each day like it was his last. He stated that some things aren’t worth the thought that we give them. I love to see growth. I have been doing some growing myself…I made some personal resolutions that I plan to stick to.

Today was also the first day of winter quarter. I had my social work practice and theory class today. I love this class. I have the same professor that I had for SWK 211 last quarter, and the same classmates. It feels good to know everyone. We all built up a very good support system last quarter. M.R.G. stated that we need to start looking for a place to do our practicum. I am going to do mine at a domestic violence center. I sent out emails already, so I am just waiting for a reply. We have to do 32 hours. I hope I get a good spot!

I got home about 8:10 pm, and I started cooking. Not for dinner tonight, but for our lunch tomorrow. My baby is at choir until 10 pm. She sings in a women’s choir here in the area. She loves to sing! So, I am blogging while I wait for her to come home.

I have classes Monday through Thursday. Social work Monday and Wednesday and Math Tuesday and Thursday. Math is going to be the death of me. LOL

I need to go check dinner. I plan to take my laptop with me tomorrow so that I can blog. I get off work at 4pm and my math class doesn’t start until 6.
